H.E. Hirut Zemene was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Kingdom of Belgium, Luxembourg and E.U. institutions in May 2020. Before assuming her current post, she has held ministerial positions: She was State Minister for Political Affairs (for Africa, Middle East and Public Diplomacy) from 2018 to May 2020 and State Minister for Political Affairs in charge of all bilateral and Multi-lateral matters from 2016 to April 2018.  Prior to that, she has occupied various positions: Director General Business Diplomacy (01/2015-11/2016); Minister Counsellor, in charge of Business Diplomacy, Multi-lateral affairs- Embassy of Ethiopia in the UK (07/2010-07/2014); Director, LDCs and LLDCs Directorate (2008-2010); Senior 2nd Secretary, Counsellor, Asia and the Middle East Directorate General (1998-2003); 2nd Secretary, Political and development cooperation officer, Embassy of Ethiopia, PR China (1998-2003); Desk officer for USA (on the interim Desk officer for Canada for 6 months), 3rd Secretary (04/1992-1998). H.E Ambassador Hirut Zemene is graduated from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University.
