Thierry de Montbrial is a doctor in economics from the Universit of Berkley. he founded a department of Economics in the Ecole Polytechnique of Paris. In the 1970s the French government entrusted him with the creation of a Policy Planning Staff within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organism whose direction he insured for several years. He is the founder in 1979 and he currently presides the  French Institute of International Relations – IFRI, which publishes the annual report Ramses. He is a member of several academic committees and centers all around the world like the Advisory Committee of the Peterson Institute for International Economics or the Carnegie Moscow Center. He is elected in 1992 at the French Academy of Moral and Political Sciences.
