Paul Kagame is Rwanda’s president since March 2000. The people of Rwanda have elected him three times over the last decade in the hope that he will lead them on the path of development. Kagame’s political career started in Uganda where he helped the current Ugandan president to liberate the country from an oppressive regime. Back in Rwanda he rose as a political leader at the head of the political party the Rwandan Patriotic Front – FPR. In the aftermath of the genocide he became a member of the cabinet of president Bizimungu and in the later half of the 90s he occupied key positions in the government: vice-president and Defense Minister. He is seen as a public advocate for new models for foreign aid that will help recipient countries become self-sufficient.
