Biography

Professor Whiteside has a vast experience in the field of international organization and negotiation. Mr. Ted Whiteside was Acting Assistant Secretary General, NATO Public Diplomacy Division from September 2012 to August 2016. Prior to this, he was Secretary of the North Atlantic Council, Director of the NATO Ministerial and Summit Task Force in Brussels and Director of the NATO Weapons of Mass Destruction Centre. As Assistant Secretary General of NATO Public Diplomacy Division, Mr. Whiteside was responsible for guiding the Alliance’s public diplomacy strategies and overseeing their implementation in member nations and partner countries. His commitment leads him to Italy, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Afghanistan, China, Japan, in many partner nations. Currently he is a professor at the University of International Studies of Rome (Unint). He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by the Governor General of Canada for the negotiations conducted with the Federal Republic of Germany. He is a Graduate of the NATO Defense College, did postgraduate studies in International Politics in Brussels, and holds an M.A. from the University of Montréal and a B.A. from York University. He is married, with two children.
