Thesis: “Assessment of Small-Scale Fisheries Policies and Governance Efficiency in Tanzania Freshwaters: Case Study of Lake Tanganyika“
Ms. Ritha Haika Mlingi is a Regional Fisheries Officer for Kigoma Regional Secretariat, in the United Republic of Tanzania. She holds an Executive master’s in Governance and Development Policy at CERIS-ULB Diplomatic School of Brussels, Belgium, Post graduate training Program on Quality management of fish handling and processing, at United Nations University-Fisheries Training Programme, and written a publication on “Transfer of methodology to artisanal fisheries by development and application of Quality Index Method (QIM) in Reykavik, Iceland in 2017- 2018. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquaculture in 2013, having conducted her research on “Determination of the shelf life of Clarias gariepinus preserved using different methods”, from the University of Dar Es Salaam.
Currently She is A Member of Lake Tanganyika Scientific Advisory Group, under The African Center for Aquatic Research and Education (ACARE). She has been Working and interacting with research Institutes and NGOs, in coordinating and provide technical support on fisheries issues and Assisting the Kigoma regional office on implementing Livestock professional issues. She is also Working as Supervisor for northern zone (Kigoma) on Lake Tanganyika Fisheries Management- Project (LATAFIMA). In Nov 2019 to Feb 2020, she was Working as the Acting Project Manager for Natural Resource Management for Local Economic Development Project (NRM-LED) in Kigoma Region.
Ms. Ritha has attained multiple skills in both international and national level which includes, Fish curing and smoking by Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) and United Nations University–Fisheries Training Programme (UNUFTP), Community based natural resources management and conservation by Community Based Conservation Training Centre – Likuyu Sekamaganga, Participatory Forest management by Forestry Training Institute (FTI) Olimotonyi, Land use Planning and management by Ardhi Institute. Water and fish quality assurance at National Fish Quality Control Laboratory-Nyegezi, Mwanza.Investigation of some biological aspects of Otolithes ruber fishes in western Indian Ocean at Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI), Dar Es Salaam.
Additionally, Ms. Ritha Haika Mlingi has attended and been active participating on seminars, conferences, and workshops over different fisheries International and National Organizations including, World Seafood Congress in Reykjavik, Iceland, The Ninth Great Lakes of the World Conference (GLOW IX) in Kisumu, Kenya, Participated on 16th biennial International Institute of Fisheries Economics and Trade (IIFET) Conference at Dar Es Salaam, Great lakes of America to Great lakes of Africa conference in Kigoma, The African Center for Aquatic Research and Education (ACARE) workshop in Entebbe, Uganda, Market Analysis on Nile Perch Value Add Products (VAPs) workshop, at National Fisheries Quality Control Laboratory (NFQCL – NYEGEZI), at Mwanza. The organizer and Trainer of Trainees Team on development and using Quality Index Method (QIM) for fish quality assessment, in collaboration with UNU-FTP, MATIS and TAFIRI in Kigoma, Great lakes of the World International Conference (GLOW 10) and African Center for Aquatic Research and Education (ACARE) International Annual meeting at Dar es salaam.
