China and EU: Shaping the Future in a Changing World

On the occasion of the Open Days of CERIS, H.E. Mr. Fu Cong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Head of Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the European Union, delivered a conference on “China and EU: Shaping the Future in a Changing World” on Friday, October 20th, 2023. The ceremony took place in the presence of many ambassadors, the Vice President of CERIS, Mr. Nicholas Williams, the Secretary General of CERIS, Ms. Nadia Karorero and the Director of CERIS, Mr. Nicolas Cornil.

H.E. Mr. Fu Cong is born in Tianjin City in 1965. In December 2022 he was appointed to Brussels as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Head of Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the European Union. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree (licence) in Law. He began his diplomatic career in 1987. Since then, he has held a number of important posts at home and abroad. Among his notable career postings, he was Division Director, Counselor and Deputy Director-General, Department of Arms Control, MFA (1997-2004), Deputy Director-General, Foreign Affairs (Overseas Chinese Affairs) Office of the People’s Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (2004-2005), Counselor and Minister-Counselor, Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland (2005-2007), Adviser to the Director-General of the World Health Organization (2007-2013), Coordinator for Cyber Affairs, MFA (2013-2014), Deputy Permanent Representative, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Disarmament Affairs of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland (2014-2018), Director-General of the Department of Arms Control, MFA (2018-2022). Ambassador Fu is married with a daughter.
